Things are great! Wow!
Thank you so much to those that have stuck with us over the years.
I very very much appreciate your support and patience during these difficult times.
As you know, this is a one person operation and is by far the hardest job i’ve ever had!
You may have read in some previous posts that sales were bad and that they were at their all time worst in 20 years.
Well out of nowhere we got in some good sales and things are finally and slowly recovering.
Some of the best news we’ve had ALL YEAR, BY FAR!!
I think there very could have been a very strange technical issue that SEVERELY damaged our sales and/or made it difficult ot tricky to order for some unknown reason.
I tested the issue previously and saw no problems myself, but one single check perhaps wasn’t enough.
The issue I think is in the use of page caching we had added for the site. We were super careful, but that wasn’t enough. I really do now believe it is the single biggest reason that some may have had problems ordering. Due to that issue alone, sales had dropped maybe 75-80%, which is nearly impossible to happen with a fully functioning site.
When used improperly, page caching could cause issues with items not going to the cart properly, items being lost from the cart or other issues.
I had this really strange feeling that said I should try to disable page caching out of the blue. Once I did that I immediately got some great sales in!
As you may have read, I was within days of getting part time work. That would have been a disaster for the site. I actually did apply for one job but received no calls back. I think that happened for a reason. It’s because I am supposed to keep working full time for the site for YEARS!
If sales have really recovered I am going to focus 100% on order processing. More than ever before! This may mean slightly less updates.
I feel as if i’ve been given a second chance and will make sure to finish all my remaining orders ASAP. I’m not going to take this all for granted.
My plan is to work 15-16 hours daily if needed. Whatever it takes!!
If you have an open order, we have not forgotten about you! It’s in progress and will be completed ASAP.
Please don’t give up on us!
My goal is to get back to normal.
Our sales slowly started to go south in February. This is when we started adding the page caching to the site. It makes me sick knowing this could have caused so many difficulties for those ordering and I did not even realize it.
Right now for me it feels like a miracle happened. I don’t usually believe in them, but that’s what it feels like.
I never gave up on the site. Many would have, but not me! I’ve worked so extremely hard to keep this site going since 2002.
Once in awhile I’ve had major challenges keeping the site going. These past few months were by far the hardest, but I think now we are OK!!
If you’re not familiar with page caching, what it does it stores an HTML page in memory as a static page. This makes it so pages on the site load super fast. The problem with this is that most pages on our software/site are dynamic and are constantly changing due to many different things.
Sometimes you can just block page caching from the cart and checkout pages and that’s enough. In our case, it wasn’t.
So now we use no page caching and things are still fast enough!
Even with no page caching we still get a 99 score for mobile and desktop on Google Page Speed test!
One other thing we did recently was switch from a shared CPU to a dedicated CPU.
Our old CPU rarely went past 9% usage, but it’s still possible it could have caused some slowdowns for people browsing the site.
Now we have a 3.2ghz AMD EPYC CPU dedicated only to our website!
We also switched from Apache to ONLY the Nginx web server!
Nginx has always worked great for us!
